Art & Illustration

Art & Illustration
I have always had an interest in art and creativity in general since I can remember, which was encouraged by my parents and the beauty I saw in the world and in my dreams.
I drew pictures of dinosaurs and embellished my school books with collages and illustrations from the age of 6. Around that age a friend got me into Sailor Moon and I became inspired by the colour and style of Japanese anime. When I was about 11, I got into fashion design and drew hundreds of outfits and fell in love with the beauty of the feminine form.
Not much has changed... well, I've grown and learnt a lot, but I still play with various artistic tools and work with fine lines, the biggest difference is I now also work digitally!
As I was planning my wedding in 2013 I became inspired by an illustration by Emma Leonard on the cover of an Australian magazine called Hitched. This delicate portrait of a woman with pink hair reignited my creative spark and Come to Life Design was started. In the down time while managing a small video store in Dunedin, I hand-drew images with pigment liner and started playing around with digitally colouring them. This met my perfectionist characteristics by allowing me to tidy any messy lines and change my mind with the colour as I wanted... it also meant my illustrations could be coloured to match decor and printed large or small as required.
What followed from here were many craft stalls, exhibitions, jewellery, art prints and my first ever colouring in book in 2017! This style of illustration inspired by feminine beauty and Japanese anime is growing and expanding and merging with my graphic design style too... constantly evolving!
